Salad greens, spinach, and head lettuce are growing like crazy in the Polyface garden right now, which means Dan and I have been washing pounds and pounds of greens lately. It's made me realize just how much I prize that trusty kitchen companion, the Salad Spinner. I didn't have one growing up, and I always dreaded when my mom asked me to make a salad for dinner. All that agony with drying each leaf by hand...all those piles of dish towels. But now, I'm able to get those greens washed and dried in a flash and bagged up to be sold in our farm store. (Oh, and Mom? I'd be willing to make you a salad too, with no complaints!)
All this has got me thinking, readers - what is YOUR favorite kitchen gadget? Which one inspires you to cook or reminds you that being in the kitchen is fun?

Love the salad spinner - I just wish I could find a real big, because when it is green salad season, it is green salad season - it's on the table for lunch & dinner! (growing up we had a mesh basket that we would spin wide, spinning upon ourselves actually!)
I do love my stone mortar & pestle which I use for all kinds of things: pesto, pulverizing nuts &spices, mashing herbs and garlic to put just under chicken skin before roasting the chicken!
I love our Kenwood Chef. We use it to make butter, juice citrus and mince meat.
Mini food processor, but I would probably vote for the salad spinner if I had one.
Would you all consider signing your awesome posts? I know you have "days", but that isn't always adhered to and I don't always know who is "speaking". Thanks!

my hand chopper, hands down (no pun intended). It's from pampered chef and saves me all kinds of time! I highly recommend it!
I love my cast iron pans!
Sylvie, Johnny's Selected Seeds carries 2.5 or 5 gallon size salad spinners.

Hm, not sure it qualifies as an actual "kitchen appliance" but a few years back I begged Hubby to build me a tub-style chicken plucker for our anniversary (doesn't every wife want that?!?). After plucking chickens by hand (for our own family's use) for a few years, this thing was HEAVEN. I still adore it. :)
Thanks Throwback at Trapper Creek. we have been looking for a bigger salad spinner. Thankfully its been a good year for romain.
My flat whisk is my favorite! It makes great gravy, hollandaise sauce and other lovely things.
I use 2 kitchen tools more than any other: first, a good chef's knife. I recently purchased a ceramic chefs knife made by Kyocera and it was worth every penny. Light, sharp, keeps its edge...
My second favorite gadget is an immersion blender... great for soups, gravies, etc.
As for a very large salad spinner... If you're making salad for a large group, or you need to wash a lot of just picked greens, you can actually throw them in a pillow case and then run them on the spin cycle of your washing machine.
